The FAI have turned down an appeal for Robbie Keane to be allowed to return to his club before the end of Ireland’s World Cup qualifying campaign.

LA Galaxy had tabled a request for the 33-year-old to be released from the Ireland camp after Friday’s World Cup qualifier against Germany – meaning that he would miss next Tuesday’s final game of the campaign against Kazakhstan.

The FAI say that interim Ireland manager Noel King has already informed Galaxy boss Bruce Arena that he won’t be releasing the 33-year-old and says that he hopes the former USA manager understands his position.

Keane sat-out this yesterday morning’s training session in Malahide with an ankle injury, but the Ireland management remain confident he’ll be fit for Friday’s game.
