Mark Shanahan’s side take the top seed position heading into the Quarter Final draw of the Clare Senior Football Championship after a hard fought victory over Doonbeg In Hennessy Park, Miltown Malbay.

Doonbeg led the way for the majority of the contest with David & Michael Tubridy prolific throughout and thanks to additional contributions from Cian Mahoney and Kevin McInerney, the Magpies held a 0-05 to 0-02 advantage at the interval while both Ennistymon scores came from the boot of Diarmuid Fahy.

The sides traded scores on the restart as Ennistymon began to grow into the contest with Brendan Rouine and David Fitzgerald finding their range until the latter goaled on fifty-one minutes to send Ennistymon 1-07 to 0-08 in front and dramatically altering the structure of the Group three table in the process.

The most dramatic moment of the tie was left to the very last however as a David Tubridy goal was chalked off the scoreboard following deliberation between Referee Chris Maguire and his officials who deemed the all time leading National League scorer was inside the Ennistymon square when he was quickest to react to the rebound from a Noel Sexton save.

The resulting decision meant the match finished on a score line of Ennistymon 1-08 to Doonbeg’s 0-09, meaning Doonbeg will now join Miltown and Kilmihil in the relegation playoffs as Ennistymon will hope to go one step further than their campaign of 2018 as they return to the knockout stages.
