Yesterday, the versatile back ended speculation over his future, by signing a new three-year deal with the IRFU.
Earls had been linked with an end-of-season move to Saracens.
In further positive news, Conor Murray has also signed a new three-year contract with the IRFU that – like Earls – will keep him at Thomond Park until the end of World Cup 2019.
Costello says Earls has stepped up to fill the void left by recent retirements.
