Doonbeg say they are still willing to play their Quarter-Final of the Clare Senior Football Championship with Cooraclare, despite being offered a walkover.
Following bereavement, Cooraclare sought for yesterday’s match to be postponed and while the clubs agreed that the game be held on Saturday, a statement released by Doonbeg states that approval for this was not forthcoming from the county board.
It then meant that there were unusual scenes in Kilmihil yesterday, when no side from Cooraclare attended while the Doonbeg team that did show up declined the walkover offered to them.
Clare’s Competitions Control Committee are due to meet this morning to consider what happens next, but Doonbeg say they’re willing to fulfil the fixture this Saturday, the day when the first semi-final of the Senior Football Championship was to be held.
The winners are to play Lissycasey, though the other last four pairing has been confirmed.
Cratloe and Eire Og will go head to head, after the South-East Clare side beat Kilrush Shamrocks by five points on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Clare’s Under 17 development side won the Daryl Darcy cup yesterday. They beat Tipperary in the Munster competition by 1-15 to 0-07 in the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick.
