The 18 times champions had a 1-12 to 1-7 win over the Shannon men, but had to come from behind to do it.

A Darragh Leahy goal had the Tones 1-5 to 1-3 ahead at the break, but the Magpies were much stronger in the seconf period, and outscored their opponents by 0-9 to 0-4 to take the win.

Wolfe Tones are now just 60 minutes away from an immediate return to the intermediate ranks.

Eire Óg have guaranteed their senior status after also surviving a scare against Shannon Gaels to win by 1-15 to 0-10

The Townies trailed at the break by 0-5 to 0-4, but a second half goal from Eimhin Courtney  proved the crucial score.

It's the second year in a row that Shannon Gaels will contest the relegation decider.
