It finished 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, 3-6, 9-7 to the Swiss.
Tomas Berdych powered through to the semi-finals earlier. The Czech beat fourth seed David Ferrer in four sets.
In the women’s draw – 19-year-old Canadian Eugenie Bouchard edged past former world number one Ana Ivanovic. She’ll face Li Na in the last four, who thrashed Flavia Pennetta.
