Ireland’s hopes of advancing to the next stage of the European under 16 Girls Volleyball Championships ended this morning when they went down 3-0 to Sweden in the quarter-finals.

The team, which contains seven Clare players including captain Maria Jones, were seeded third from Group B after finishing behind Denmark and hosts the Faroe Islands on Friday in Torshavn.

However, their tournament isn’t complete as they will be in action again on Sunday when they participate in the 5th/6th play-off match at 1pm.
