Disappointing morning for Irish so far at London 2012

Its been a disappointing day so far for Team Ireland at London 2012, with 3 Irish competitors bowing out.

Aileen Morrison was forced to settle for 43rd position in the Women’s  Triathalon

Tori Pena’s Olympics are also over. The American-born  ploe vaulter failed to clear her first height of 4.1 metres after 3 attempts.

While in the Women’s Steeplechase, Stephanie Reilly came up short in her bid to qualify for the final, finishing 9th in her Heat.

However there was some good news in rowing , with Sanita Puspure  putting in a great performance this morning in winning the “C” Final in the Womens Single Sculls. The victory leaves her in 13th overall in the standings.

In track Cycling , Martin Irvine got his Men’s Omnium campaign off to a decent start.

The Newtonard man logged a time of 13.5 seconds in this morning’s Flying Lap, leaving him in 9th place ahead of this evenings Points and Elimination races.

In Sailing  Annalise Murphy is in the water for the first of her final two races before Monday’s medal race of the Laser Radial Class.

The Dubliner starts the day in second place overall.

And coming up at 2pm, Paddy Barnes his campaign with a last-16 match-up against Cameroon’s Thomas Essomba in the Men’s Light Flyweight division.

While later this evening, Rob Heffernan goes in the final of the Mens 20k WALK, while Joanne Cuddihy goes in the first semi-final of the Women’s 400m.

Also this morning, Billy Twomey registered 4 faults on his first round in the individual SHOW JUMPING, meaning he sits in 27th place as it stands.

Cian O’Connor is due out at 1.45pm.
