Munster U20 Football Championship: Kerry 3-23 Clare 0-11
Clare’s U20 football season came to a disappointing end in Tralee as Kerry ran out winners with 21 points to spare.
It brought the curtain down on a largely forgettable campaign for Maurice Walsh’s side who only registered one win in their six games played, with that being a nervy victory against Limerick in the final game of the Phase One series.
Kerry set the tone for this one early, racing into a 1-3 to 0-0 lead inside the opening three minutes.
A second goal arrived for the Kingdom just before the end of the opening quarter to send them 2-6 to 0-1 clear, and when they struck for their third green flag five minutes later, it ended any hopes of a contest breaking out.
At the half time whistle, Tomas O’Sé’s outfit led by 3-13 to 0-4.
Clare did show a better degree of spirit after the restart but the issues that have dogged them across the campaign continued, as Kerry dominated the restart battle to cut out any clear possession in the middle third.
Sean Fennell ended the night with a tally of 0-5, all bar one from frees, while Colin O’Rioran (2p), Sean McMahon, Tom Curran (f) and Cathal Talty (f) also got in on the scoring act.
