The Under 21 Footballers have suffered a heavy fifteen point loss in the opening game of the pre season Hastings Cup competition.
Ger Keanes side lost out to Roscommon on a score line of 2-19 to 1-07.
In all, twelve counties compete in the tournament which consists of three groups of four teams.
Next weekend the banner side clash with Westmeath, while Kildare wait in the final round of group games.
This afternoon Kildare beat Westmeath 1-17 to 2-06.
The top team from each group along with the best second placed team will qualify for semi-finals.
The other two group runners-up will contest the Hastings Shield final.
This pre-season competitive action comes ahead of the championship opener on March 19th in the Munster Semi final against the quarter final winners of Tipperary/Waterford.
