After a strong start from the visitors saw them go 0-4 to 0-0 ahead, Clare responed well but still trailed by 0-7 to 0-3 at the break.
Kilkenny goaled within a minute of the restart, and this score proved crucial. Clare didn't throw in the towel, but when the final whistle went it was Kilkenny victorious by 1-13 to 0-12.
Colm Honan's side now face Tippeary in next weekends round.
