Goals proved the crucial scores as Tipperary overcame Clare by 2-13 to 0-13 in their Munster MHC tie.
The sides were level 0-8 apiece at the HT break, with Kilmaley’s Cian Neylon unlucky to see his kicked effort just clearing the crossbar with the final act of the half.
Clare started the second period brightly with the first two scores, but a run of 2-3 without reply from Tipperary turned the game on its head.
Tipperary’s danger man in the opening period was the architect of the first big score of the game, as Damien Corbett’s sideline cut was turned home by Paddy McCormack from close range.
A second Tipperary goal through Tom Delaney saw the Premier surge 2-11 to 0-10 clear in what was the defining period of the game.
Clare struggled to reel that deficit back, with Neylon’s late 21m free being saved by the home defence.
Clare now face Waterford in Sixmilebridge next Tuesday evening with the winners there securing a home quarter final.
