Also, last night the Meath footballers began their championship campaign with a win over Wicklow in Aughrim.

It finished 1-17 to 1-12.

A Paul Earls goal gave Wicklow the lead on 7 minutes, but Meath moved ahead thanks in large part to a freak goal by full-back Kevin Reilly from his own half.

The Royals will now face Wexford for a place in this year’s Leinster final.
