Corofin Looking Forward To Clare Senior Football Semi Finals For First Time In 27 Years

Corofin will go into the hat for the Clare senior football semi finals this evening for just the second time in their history.

Last years intermediate winners are joined in the draw by the last two senior champions & the 2018 finalists.

Corofin produced arguably the shock of the year as they denied Lissycasey a third consecutive semi final spot.

The North Clare side were dominant throughout, with Jamie Malone’s second half goal helping them to a deserved 1-19 to 0-16 win.

Manager Doug Hurley says they had full belief that their squad could get the result

Champions Eire Og had two Mark McInerney goals to thank as they moved into the last four with a 2-11 to 0-11 win over Clondegad.

2020 winners Kilmurry Ibrickane are also through as they produced a strong second half showing to beat Cratloe by 3-13 to 1-13.

Manager James Murrihy feels they have plenty to work on after allowing Cratloe back into the game in the closing stages

Ennistymon are also into the last four, as an early Diarmuid Fahy penalty and two late Killian Malone frees helped them to beat St Breckans by the minimum.

Elsewhere this weekend, Miltown survived a late scare before securing their senior status and sending Kilmihil to the intermediate championship for 2023.

The 2019 champions led by 13 points at the break, but five second half goals for Kilmihil levelled the game with five minutes to go, before Cormac Murray hit the net to quell the comeback.

County star Eoin Cleary says it was important to retain their place in the top tier for the future development of the club.

In the intermediate championship, Cooraclare moved a step closer to an immediate return to the top tier, as they booked their final spot with victory over Ennistymon.

Kildysart saw off Shannon Gaels in their refixed quarter final to set up a last four showdown against O’Curry’s next weekend.

Elsewhere, Liscannor and Killimer will contest the Junior A final, while Moy were crowned Junior B champions.
