Competition structures to dominate GAA convention

The future structure of Clare’s senior hurling and football competitions are likely to be key talking points at tonight’s Clare GAA convention.

The future capacity of Cusack Park and the finances of Clare GAA will also come under scrutiny at the  annual meeting, as Clare FM’s Gavin Grace now reports.

In his speech at tonight’s Clare GAA Convention, county board secretary Pat Fitzgerald is set to question the current structures of the senior hurling and football championships in the county.

Fitzgerald’s comments will be timely, as a seven-man committee continues with it’s review of the competitions, and it’s process of drawing up a blueprint for their future.

Meanwhile a number of questions will be asked about Cusack Park, amid confusion surrounding it’s capacity going forward, while in a report to tonight’s convention the Clare Referees Administration Committee will describe levels of abuse hurled at officials here as ‘an area of great concern’.

The County Board will also reveal that expenditure on county teams will have been reduced by over 150 thousand euro in the last two years.

Tonight’s convention takes place at the Auburn Lodge Hotel at 6:30.
