As expected, last night’s County Board meeting saw Colm Collins ratified as Mick O’Dwyer’s successor as Clare Senior Football Manager on a three year term with Ger Keane as Selector.

The pair will oversee the Under 21 footballers in the opposite roles.

Following his recent All Ireland success with the Hurlers, Davy Fitzgerald and his backroom team have been given a further three-year term, meaning they will be in place until the end of 2017.

In other Football news out of last night’s meeting, it was decided, with some opposition, that the footballers will be abstaining from the McGrath cup next year in a stand against the seeding of the Munster championship.

It was then proposed and seconded that Clare play in Connacht’s FBD league, and so an application will be made for the footballers to enter that competition.

As regards the scheduling of fixtures for this weekend, the board met with the hurling clubs involved in the semi-finals about Clonlara’s request for a postponement of the games this weekend.

Following those discussions the fixtures committee are due to hold a meeting this morning, while a decision from Munster Council regarding an extension to the deadline for the provincial championship is also expected later today.
