Clonlara Open The Gate To Victory In Clare SHC

Paul Madden’s side have recorded their first victory of the Clare Senior Hurling Championship for 2022 following a titanic tussle with Whitegate.

Both sides came into their Group one second round encounters seeking their first points of the 2022 campaign and it was apparent from the throw in that neither outfit was willing to give an inch.

Throughout the sixty minutes Whitegate and Clonlara would be level on no less than eight occasions.

Ronan Hayes, Paul Burke and Conor Whelan showed the attacking impetus for Whitegate, while a first half goal from Dylan McMahon as well as strong showings from captain Cathal O’Connell and Ian Galvin ensured the sides departed level at the break on a score line of Whitegate 1-08 to Clonlara’s 0-11.

Despite Whitegate notching three points without reply in the opening stages of the second half , Clonlara continued to stay in touch and would eventually turn the screw with Ian Galvin to the fore.

The South East Clare men dominated the final quarter claiming the final five scores in a row  to secure a 1-20 to 0-19 victory in Cusack Park Ennis and getting off the mark in the Clare Senior Hurling Championship.
