Clondegad will enter the Quarter-Final Draw of the Clare Senior Football Championship in the unseeded bowl following a well deserved victory over St.Joseph’s Doora-Barefield in their preliminary Quarter Final meeting at Cusack Park.
Both sides approached the winner takes all clash with fierce intensity at the County grounds and found themselves deadlocked at 0-3 apiece by the twelfth minute.
However Clondegad would slowly but surely assert their dominance on the contest and would go on to keep St.Josephs scoreless for the remainder of the opening period whilst stretching their own advantage out to treble scores at the interval leading by 0-09 to 0-03 with Eoghan Donnellan, Ryan Jennings, Barry Toner and Gary and Shane Brennan all on target for the Ballynacally men.
The County Finalists of 2017 would have felt aggrieved to find themselves in this position after winning two of their three previous group stage matches and showed no intention of loosening their grip on a last eight place after the restart.
Such was the dominance of the eventual winners that St.Joseph’s Doora-Barefield would have to wait until the forty-seventh minute for Eoghan Thynne to raise their next white flag while at the opposite end their netminder Tom 0’Brien was forced into making save after save until the pressure finally told just ten minutes from the final whistle when Eoghan Donnellan found the back of the Parish net to put the result beyond all doubt.
It finished Clondegad 1-15 to St.Joseph’s Doora-Barefield 0-08.
