Clare’s camogie side have just come up short in their bid to get the 2021 National League off to a winning start.

Ger O’Connell’s charges lost out to Galway, by 3-11 to 0-15, with a strong display in the second half by the home side in Athenry seeing them over the line.

The concession of three first half goals saw Clare in front by just the minimum at the half time break, as they led 0-12 to 3-2 after an opening period in which they were by far the better team.

A hard working Banner outfit failed to score from play in the second period, with three Chloe Morey frees being their only contribution on the scoreboard, while Galway showed all their experience to pick off crucial points to seal the win.

Clare’s junior side also lost out in their opening round today, as Limerick ran out winners in Kilmallock by 2-16 to 2-10.
