Clare Recover To Beat Waterford In McGrath Cup

Clare’s Senior Footballers have beaten Waterford in the McGrath Cup.

Colm Collins’ side welcomed the Deise to Miltown Malbay this afternoon – and it was initially the visitors who had the upper hand after a strong first half left them 2-5 to 1-4 up at the break.

However, the Banner came out charging and Gavin Cooney raised the green flag almost immediately in the second half to close the gap.

Cooney followed that up with a second goal later in the game as they moved to control the flow – and eventually ran out victorious.

Cian O’Dea also hit the back of the net for Clare – just hours after getting the winner for Clare’s Oscar Traynor side in Limerick last night.

Collins side took victory in Miltown on a 3-14 to 3-7 win, but it means nothing in the Championship as Limerick had already confirmed their place in the next stage of the competition with wins over both Clare and Waterford.

The Banner’s next competitive outing is an away fixture to Westmeath in Division 2 of the league on Sunday, January 26th.
