Clare’s Kennedy Cup campaign has commenced.
With one win and one defeat under their belt, it’s all to play for going into their final game.
In their opening game, Clare let a one goal advantage slip as they lost 2-1 to Galway. Captain, Callum McNamara fired the Banner into the lead as he slotted a penalty to the back of the Tribesmen’s net.
As the game approached the final twenty minutes; the concentration of the Clare boys dropped and Galway took advantage of this hitting two goals in this period to snatch the all-important win
Under the guidance of Fabio Messori, Ray Keane, Chris Curran and Robert McSherry; Clare regrouped for their encounter with Limerick played this morning and stormed to a 2-0 win. Midfielder Cian McDonough and Newmarket Celtic’s Callum McNamara got the all-important Clare goals.
The result now means it’s all to play for as Clare count down the hours to their final group game with Roscommon today with a kickoff down for 16:00.
In the final round of games in Group 5, Galway play Limerick with Clare and Roscommon face off. Clare need Galway to slip up and ensure they get three points against the Rossies to advance to the quarter-finals of the Kennedy Cup.
If both Clare and Galway win; the Banner will end up in the Kennedy Bowl; a defeat for Clare ensures a spot in the Kennedy Shield provided Galway beat Limerick. Confidence is high in the Clare camp following two good displays so they will be intent on beating Roscommon who suffered a 2-0 defeat to Galway but have a win under their belt after overcoming Limerick 2-0.
