Clare began life in Divison Three of the Allianz National Football League with a bang.
Colm Collins charges had a 1-16 to 0-5 win over Wexford in Miltown Malbay, and were full value for the win.
They led by 0-8 to 0-3 at half time, with scorer in chief David Tubridy time and again punishing Wexford indiscipline by converting dead balls.
Wexford were dealt a huge blow in the opening minutes of the second half when captain Ciaran Lyng was red carded for an off the ball incident involving Dean Ryan. The Yellow Bellies also lost two men to black cards in the second period.
Tubridy, who contributed 0-10 overall to the Clare cause, continued to be impeccable from frees, with debutante Pat Burke causing numerous problems for the Wexford defence.
Led from midfield by captain Gary Brennan, the Banner dominated proceedings, and it was Burke who put the icing on the cake with a well taken goal five minutes from time.
The result sees Clare on top of Division Three after the opening round, with a trip to Louth to come next Sunday.
Elsewhere in Division Three, Armagh left it late to beat 14 man Tipperary by a point, 2-8 to 0-13 the final score, while Limerick got the better of Sligo in Kilmallock, 0-14 to 1-9.
