The Shannon man is part of the Irish side at the World University Games in South Korea, with Sycerika McMahon, whose mother hails from Lissycasey, also in action.
She finished 5th in her heat of the 200m individual medley event today, and will also compete tomorrow in the 100m breaststroke.
Byran will not be in action until Saturday when he goes in the 10K open water race.
