Limerick led at the break by a point 2-9 to 0-14, after Clare conceded two soft goals in the opening half, one from Wayne Mc Namra and the other from  Sean Tobin.

Nicky O Connell scored the opening point of the second half but Limerick began to dominate and when Declan Hannon goaled 10 minutes into the second period   it looked like the gap was too much for Davy Fitzgerald’s side until Tony Kelly goaled from a 20 metre free with just 2 minutes remaining to make for a nervous finish.

But John allen’s side held on and are into the q-finals later this month.

Earlier Cork beat Wexford by 3-24 to 2-17
