Clare lose out to Waterford in thrilling final

Clare’s wait for a first win in the Munster championship since 2008 goes on after suffering a 2-17 to 1-18 loss to Waterford in Thurles on Sunday.

Davy Fitzgerald lost out to his former charges in a game that was dominated by the decision to award a first half penalty against Cian dillion for a foul on Eoin Kelly, despite the Deise forward having initially fouled the Crusheen man.

Clare also had an opportunity to win the game late on only for Patrick Kelly’s 21 metre free to be stopped by Stephen O Keefe

The Clare manager is hopeful his side can respond to the loss as the Banner now face into the qualifiers.

They will enter at Phase Two with their next outing in the championship on July 7th.

It was a better day for the Clare Intermediates who got the defense of their Munster and All Ireland titles off to a positive start with a 1-19 to 3-9 win.
