Chairman of Clare ladies football Sean Lenihan is confident the new manager of the county flagship side will take the squad to the next level.
Kildare native Wayne Freeman was ratified last night by club delegates to take over the reins from Evan Talty.
The appointment is for an initial 2-year period with an option of a third and follows a recent call for applications to lead the Clare Ladies flagship Team.
Board Chairman Sean Lenihan advised delegates last evening that there were a number of applicants for the post from both within and outside the County and thanked the unsuccessful candidates for their interest in the position.
He outlined Wayne Freeman’s considerable experience at both Club and County level, most recently with Louth LGFA and before that with Laois and Kildare, and felt extremely positive for the future.
Freeman succeeds Evan Talty who vacated the post after 2 years at the end of the 2022 Campaign having narrowly lost out to eventual winners Laois in the All Ireland Semi Final.
Freeman says he’s delighted to be appointed to the role of Clare Ladies Intermediate Manager.
“My goals and values are shared with the Clare County Board and I am gladly accepting the challenge of bringing future success to Clare Ladies.
It is an exciting opportunity for me to work with such a talented and ambitious County and I look forward to the journey we are about to undertake together”, he said.
The former Louth manager will hold trail games in the coming weeks to build a squad for next year’s National League campaign in Division Three.
Other members of the Management Team ratified at the Meeting include Coaches Lee Hunt and Brian Willis who have worked with Freeman for over 5 years along with Kilmurry Ibrickane Club member Sarah Cunningham as Female Liaison Officer, a role she filled in Talty’s Management Team for the past two years.
Other appointments are expected to follow.
