All Ireland Senior Camogie Championship: Clare 0-12 Limerick 1-9
Clare’s fate in the All Ireland senior camogie championship is still in their own hands after a dramatic draw against Limerick in Zimmer Biomet Pairc Chiosiog.
A late Caoimhe Costelloe free earned a deserved share of the spoils for Joe Quaid’s side, who had led by 1-4 to 0-3 after 20 minutes of the opening half, having played against a sizeable wind in the first period.
Clare rallied in the closing stages to restore parity at the break with four unanswered scores, but the goal will be a source of regret for the Banner defence having been of the soft variety.
Limerick’s use of an extra defender was something Clare struggled with for large parts of the game, but a much improved showing in the second half saw the Banner’s full back line snuff out much of their visitors scoring threat.
A brilliant save from Sarah Gillane repelled Clare’s only real clear cut scoring chance as she deflected Roisin Begley’s shot over the bar, and another from Begley looked to have given Clare a late winner.
Costelloe would have the final say of the game as she converted a tricky free from out on the sideline, with a draw truthfully being a fair result for both sides.
It means that Clare are still on track to book a spot in the All Ireland quarter final, with scoring difference now likely to decide the final standings.
Clare have games against Cork and Tipperary to come, with Limerick having shipped a 38 point defeat against Cork when they met in the opening round, and they still have their tie with Tipperary to come.
