Clare Juniors Book All Ireland Semi Final Spot After Defiant Victory Over Cavan

The Clare Junior Camogie Side have maintained their unbeaten status in the Glen Dimplex Premier Junior All Ireland Championship.

In the Process the Banner charges solidified top spot in Group 2 after snatching victory from the Jaws of Defeat against a gallant Cavan side in Kingspan Breffni Park.

In a tit for tat encounter Clare wasted no time getting off the mark as Feakle/Killanena sharpshooter Shauna Canny pointed from a free for the Banner ladies just two minutes after throw in.

By the 10th minute both sides were level pegging at 0-02 a piece as Cavan continued to repel Clare’s advances. An Abby Walsh Point cancelled out by Cavan’s Aideen Coyle. However from this juncture Cavan would hit a purple patch hitting the next three scores in a row commanding a 0-05 to 0-02 lead by the 24th minute.

Clare replied through Grace Carmody and another Shauna Canny free on the stroke of halftime leaving the minimum deficit between the sides.

It was the second period where Clare’s defensive efforts earned their dividends and by restricting the home side to just two second half points ensured the perfect springboard to an eventual victory.

Allowing for a  Shauna Canny free and third of the day on 40 minutes and a Grace Carmody strike just five minutes from time to level proceedings before substitute Fiona O’Brien provided the injury time heroics to ensure Clare ran out 0-08 to 0-07 winners.

An All Ireland Semi Final date with Group 1’s second place finishing Antrim on July 23rd is Clare’s reward where they will be hoping to retain the Kay Mill’s cup for the first time since 2008
