Clare used a much more defensive system and contained the Kingdom for the opening quarter but slick forward interplay left Kerry ahead at the break by 0-12 to 0-09.

It went from bad to worse when Kerry goaled through James O donghue and despite Kerry’s Paul Galvin being sent off for a second yellow card the Kingdom romped home-Colm Cooper’s goal making him the top scoer in Gaa history.

David Russell grabbed a consolation goal for Clare midway through the second half.
