Goals in either half from Peter Duggan and Aaron Shanagher saw them beat Offaly 2-21 to 0-15 in Cusack Park.
Colin Ryan was Clare's top scorer with 0-9, while 10 different scorers were on target over the 70 minutes.
Manager Davy Fitzgerald was pleased to get the year off to the right start.
