Changes to the structure of the Clare hurling and football championships are set to be debated tonight at the reconvened Agm in Ennis.
Following consulation with clubs across the county the structures review commitee is proposing a reduction in the number of Clare senior hurling clubs while the senior football championship will now have a backdoor for teams which lose in the opening rounds.
The structures review committee’s report states that clubs across Clare agree that the 20 team hurling championship needs to be revised and plans are outlined on how to reduce the championship to a 16 team knockout format for the 2014 season.
This will include the relegation of five senior clubs in 2013 while this years championship will consist of an A and B system.
Plans are also included to change the county senior football championship to a knockout system and provide a backdoor which would allow sides a minimum of at least three championship games per year.
The report also makes a case for allwing group teams or amagamations partake in championship due to the increasing impact of emigration on Clare gaa clubs.
Changes to regrading are also proposed as well as a reduction in the amount of deferell’s given to county team managers with the report suggesting only sides which reach an All Ireland final should be allowed change the Clare master fixtures plan.
The meeting takes place tonight at 7pm in the West county hotel.
