Clare’s senior footballers, along with their counterparts from Tipperary, Limerick and Waterford say they will not take part in next year’s McGrath Cup due to their disappointment at the decision to re-introduce seeding for next year’s Munster Championship.
In a statement released by the GPA, the players say the decision seriously disadvantages their provincial championship prospects, and affects the wider All-Ireland series in an unfair manner.
The four squads have now asked their counties to withdraw from the McGrath Cup, while the players may not line out for Munster in the Railway Cup.
Clare’s participation in next year’s Munster Championship is assured, with the statement saying that the players understand that they are restricted by rules for 2014.
However, they warn that current panellists won’t line out in the 2015 Munster Championship if the seeding arrangement isn’t reversed.
