Clare Footballers Overcome By Kildare In Newbridge

Clare have lost out to Kildare in their National Football League Division 2 clash in Newbridge today.

Colm Collin’s side played against the breeze in the first half of a game which saw Kildare take an early lead, which they maintained to the end.

A Kevin Feely penalty on 13 minutes gave the Lily Whites a comfortable lead before Clare pinned back a couple of scores leaving a half time scoreline of Kildare 1-10 Clare 0-5.

Clare got off to strong start after the break and 18 minutes into the second half, the Banner were within three points of Kildare, thanks to a Jamie Malone point but a point from Kildare’s Jimmy Hyland soon after gave Kildare a four point lead.

Kildare kept the pressure on to lead by 6 points with 29 minutes gone in the second half. A goal chance by Clare was taken off the line just minutes later. Kildare moved to slow down play in the dying minutes as Clare tried to create chances with 4 minutes extra time to play for.

Clare were left with 14 players when Cormac Murray received a red card for a challenge.

It finished Clare 0-13 Kildare 1-16.
