Last night's historical ladies Boxing International between Ireland and England in the National Stadium in Dublin went right down to the wire, with a share of the spoils ultimately gleaned by the impressive victory of Clare’s Keisha Atwell from the Ennis Club.
Atwell’s victory over England’s Emily Asquith in the final bout of the evening ensured a 5-5 draw in this thrilling meeting between two of the top Boxing nations in the world.
Atwell and Asqauith, both big hitters had their moments in the opening two rounds and the third and final round delivered all the fireworks as both boxers had to go for it, and they did not disappoint in a thriller with the Ennis Light Welter clinching victory with accurate right-handers in the final minute.
Atwell who won her first Irish title in April is a virtual newcomer to the sport and last night's victory enhances her prospects for the future .
