Clare have been eliminated from this year’s Munster Under-20 Hurling Championship, despite a spirited first-half performance against the reigning All Ireland Champions Tipperary.

The Banner were without a number of players, including Shane Meehan and captain Aaron Moloney, but started brightly, when a run of five straight points helped them to a 0-10 to 0-6 half-time lead.

However, Tipperary, who started six of last year’s All-Ireland Final team, were on top in the second half and they addressed that gap, before pulling away.

A late penalty goal helped them to a 1-19 to 0-12 point win, with Cian Galvin top-scoring for the Banner with five.

Cork overcame Kerry in this evening’s other clash, 2-24 to 2-10.
