Clare’s hurlers have opened their National Hurling League campaign with a loss to Antrim.

The side traveled to Corrigan Park to take on last year’s Joe McGrath Cup winners and started well, holding a 0-9 to 0-6 lead at the first water break.

The sides were leveled on the 28th minute when Ciaran Clarke hit the back of the net for the home side. Clare responded by drawing out a two point gap by half time.

Antrim scored the first point of the second half and it was a sign of an impending attack from the home side – taking the lead 10 minutes into the second half.

The Antrim attack, led by Clarke and aided by a strong breeze, was unrelenting and the two final scores of the match going to the home side secured the win.

Final score in Corrigan Park: Antrim 1-21, Clare 0-22.
