Clare’s Senior Hurlers have been defeated in their Munster SHC clash against Cork.

The Banner traveled to Cork’s Pairc Ui Chaoimh to face the rebels at home in the opening game of the campaign.

Clare’s early three point lead was the biggest gap for the bones of an hour as the sides kept each other in check, until a 55th minute Conor Lehane goal gave Cork a 1-14 to 0-13 lead.

It wouldn’t be long before Clare brought themselves back into the game and Tony Kelly hit the back of the net in the 61st minute to leave the sides on 1-15 each.

Cork’s Robbie Flynn went down injured and required lengthy treatment which left eleven minutes of injury time to be played.

Clare were struggling to recover a two point deficit when Seamus Harnedy 79th minute strike hit the back of the Clare net and left Cork five points in the lead and secure the win.

Full time score was Cork 2-23, Clare 1-21.

Clare meet Waterford in Cusack Park in the second round of the competition next Sunday.
