Clare County Board Says Clare Followed COVID-19 GAA Guidelines

The Chair of Clare County Board insists clubs here did abide by all COVID-19 guidelines, within reason.

It’s after the GAA yesterday suspended all club games across the country with immediate effect following concern over social distancing at some events.

GAA President John Horan expressed disappointment with some unnamed incidents, but in Clare, County Board Chairman Joe Cooney insists restrictions were followed.

He complimented all clubs involved for their support.

The Camogie Association has endorsed a decision to suspend all club games at all levels with immediate effect and until further notice.

The Association says the decision has been taken in the interest of public safety and it applies to all ages and all grades across the island.

It comes after the GAA and LGFA paused all club fixtures “with immediate effect” and the government decided to enforce level 3 restrictions across the whole country.

The senior inter-county Camogie Championship will go ahead as planned and is due to get underway on the 17th of October.
There will be no Under-16 Hurling Championship in Clare this year.

Following the decision of the GAA to suspend all club games, Coiste na nOg Iomant An Chláir have told clubs that they have had to cancel the competition as they would not be able to start it until November at the earliest.

This year’s Under-14 and Minor Championships were completed.
