Clare beat Wexford to maintain unbeaten start to 2016

Clare have maintained their 100% record in 2016 after victory over Wexford in Division 1B of the Allianz National Hurling League.

A late flurry of points saw the Banner take victory by 0-18 to 1-11 in Wexford Park.

Wexford won the toss and opted to play with a strong breeze in the opening half.

It was the home side who started the brightest and led 0-4 to 0-1 after 10 mins with Colin Ryan's free the sole score for the Banner.

Ryan then pointed two more frees to cut the gap to one, after good work from Aaron Shanagher and David Reidy.

Another free from Ryan then levelled the game midway through the half, before Conor McGrath pointed to give Clare the lead for the first time 0-5 to 0-4 after 20 minutes.

McGrath then struck once more and John Conlon also found the range to give Clare a three point lead.

Eoin Moore and David Dunne then hit two quickfire points to cut the gap to one with 30 minutes on the clock.

Wexford goalkeeper Mark Fanning then netted from a penalty after Cian Dillon was adjudged to have fouled in the square, and Wexford led 1-6 to 0-7 at half time.

Another Ryan free opened the scoring after the break, but Wexford hit three in a row to open up a three point gap.

Ryan cut the gap once more before two points from Kehoe frees saw them lead by four.

Points from David Reidy and Jack Browne got Clare back within two points with 20 minutes to play.

With ten minutes to go, Colin Ryan pointed a "65 to make it a one point game, before Bobby Duggan tied the game up.

Harry Kehoe then put over another free before Jack Browne landed his second point to level matters up.

Colin Ryan then hit two in a row to give Clare the cushion of two points with as many minutes to play, before Bobby Duggans second put the Banner three in front.

Another Colin Ryan free gave his side a four point lead, and Davy Fitz side closed out the game to win by 0-18 to 1-11.
