Goals from David Silva and James Milner secured a comfortable victory for City.
Arsenal are still in third place and still a point ahead of Manchester United after both sides also registered wins tonight.
The Gunners were 2-1 victors over QPR, while United needed a late goal from Ashley Young to scramble a 1-0 win at Newcastle.
In the late kick-off, Liverpool emerged with a 2-0 win over Burnley at Anfield after goals from Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge.
Elsewhere tonight, Everton's alarming slump in form has continued after a 2-0 loss to Stoke.
And Tottenham held-out for a 3-2 win over Swansea after an eventful game at White Heart Lane, which was held-up for several minutes in the first-half when Swansea striker Bafetimbi Gomis (pr: Baffa-tee-mee Go-miss) collapsed on the pitch and had to be brought to hospital.
Swansea say that the Frenchman is now recovering well.
