The Townies were victorious by 0-13 to 0-12 in the opening Group 1 clash of the Clare SFC on a day when free takers reigned supreme at Cusack Park, Ennis.
It was the North Clare Men who started the better with Aidan Davidson getting the first score of the contest just inside the four moment mark.
Only a moment later Philip Talty provided the equalizer for Eire Óg and the sides would resume their ding dong battle equally sharing ten points between them until contributions from Pádraig Kelly and a Jamie Stack brace in the final three minutes of the opening half sent St.Breckan’s down the tunnel leading by 0-8 to 0-5.
Eire Óg hit the ground running in the second period with the marauding runs of Ciarán Russell and the tireless work of Ikem Ugwerru continuing to pose threats for the Breckan’s defence creating four placed balls the Townies could easily dispatch, three of which were converted by Captain Gavin Cooney whilst Mark McInerney was also on target.
Jamie Stack, and Dale Masterson kept the scoreboard ticking over for St.Breckans, however the pivotal moment came on fifty three minutes when the latter received a straight red card just as Eire Óg had created a two point lead.
Mark McInerney capitalized on the numbers advantage to stretch Eire Óg’s lead to three and their largest of the day and despite late rallies from Padráíg Kelly and Jamie Stack, the Townies defence stood strong to hold on by the minimum.
The Champions finished victorious by just a single score in Cusack Park as it ended Eire Óg 0-13 to St.Breckan’s 0-12
