Carrig to bring home bronze from European Boxing Championships

Ennis boxer Sally Carrig will return home victorious this weekend from the European Championships in Poland with a bronze medal in toe.

Carrig who boxes out of Ennis BC, yesterday missed out on trading up her medal for a silver after losing out in the 69 kg semi final against Hungrey’s Diana Hegedus.

Just one Irish boxer now remains in contention for gold after Dundalks Amy Broadhurst saw off her semi final opponent yesterday.

On Tuesday two other Clare boxers Kayleigh Murrihy McCormack and her cousin 15 year old Caoilinn McCormack lost out in their respective quarter final bouts to their Turkish and Russian opponents .

However all three are expected to receive a hero’s welcome when they arrive back in Ireland on Saturday
