Last years beaten finalists were keen to hit the ground running in the opening round of their Clare Senior Football Championship of 2022 against Doonbeg in Hennessy Park Miltown Malbay.

Andrew Shannon opened the scoring for the Kilmurry men inside five minutes and proved to be a constant threat whilst Aidan McCarthy, Josh Moloney ,Dermot Coughlan, Daniel Walsh and Shane Hickey all got in on the scoring act for the Quilty side in the opening half.

David Tubridy showed unerring accuracy for the Magpies in the opening period converting three placed balls , while efforts from Cathal Kileen and Kevin Pender sent Doonbeg trailing their opponents by 0-05 to 0-08 as the sides went for the dressing rooms at half time.

Kilmurry would largely dominate proceedings in the second half, as they forced Doonbeg to rely on David Tubridy frees to stay in touch whilst further scores from Michael O’Dwyer and a Dermot Coughlan brace increased their advantage to four going down the home straight.

However there was still time for more drama between the old rivals in Miltown as Jason Linnane came all the way up from the corner back position to produce an unstoppable effort past David Sexton in the Kilmurry goal.

To their credit the eventual winners showed no signs of panic as Darren Callinan and Michael O’Dwyer provided the insurance scores in the dying embers to ensure a 0-13 to 1-07 vctory for Kilmurry Ibrickane.
