For the second year in succession, Brian Lohan’s charges were bested by their Shannonside neighbours in a dramatic encounter at the final provincial hurdle.

In a pulsating seventy minutes on the Ennis road, Clare looked to be on course for a historic victory , with a Mark Rodgers goal on the cusp of half-time propelling The Banner into a 1-11 – 0-11 lead.

However, the defending champions would hit a purple patch in the third quarter with Aaron Gillane’s goal in the 41st minute acting as the catalyst for the Treaty to carve out a 1-19 to 1-14 lead with 15 minutes remaining.

The Banner battled back bravely on away soil with Ian Galvin, Tony Kelly & David Fitzgerald all pointing in the closing stages to leave the minimum between the sides in the final moment of additional time.

However the elusive leveller would ultimately evade Clare as Limerick claimed their fifth consecutive Munster title on a full-time score of 1-23 to 1-22.
