Diarmuid Stritch’s late goal saw the Banner record a dramatic one point win at SuperValu Pairc ui Chaoimh.

It secured a win that looked unlikely for long spells of the game with Cork hitting just one wide in the opening half, as they led 0-13 to 1-8.

Sean Boyce was Clare’s goal scorer in a first period where nine wides looked to have the Banner in danger of leaving the game behind.

Mark Sheedy underlined his status as a top class goalkeeper, as the Sixmilebridge netminder produced some top class point blank saves to keep his goal intact.

Fred Hegarty’s free taking kept Clare in the contest going down the home stretch, and with time running out, the Clonlara duo of Micheal Collins & Stritch combined for what would be the winning score.

Cork had late chances to force the game to extra time but their efficiency deserted them at a crucial time as Clare held on for a brilliant win.

Terence Fahy’s side now face Tipperary at the TUS Gaelic Grounds on Wednesday evening next with a 7.30pm start.
