A canoeist from Ballyvaughan has become the first Irish athlete to be selected for this year’s Olympic Games.
24-year-old Liam Jegou, who is now based in France, will compete in the C1 Canoe Slalom, becoming just the second ever Irishman to take part in the event.

Jegou won silver at the 2014 World Junior Championships and bronze at the World U23 Championships last year, and was nominated for the Games after overcoming other Irish competitors over a three-race selection period.
In a video relased by the Olympic Federation of Ireland, Jegou has spoken of his delight at becoming an Olympian.
