Arsenal have been held to a frustrating one-all draw by 10-man Wolves in today’s opening game in the Barclays Premier League.
Wolves keeper Wayne Hennessey produced a man-of-the-match performance to claim a point for Mick McCarthy’s side as the Gunners missed-out on a chance to break back into the top four.
A dominant Arsenal deservedly took the lead after just eight minutes at the Emirates when Gervinho latched onto a through pass from Yossi Benayoun (pr: ben-eye-oon).
But Wolves equalised in the 38th minute when Stephen Ward’s shot was deflected towards Steven Fletcher, who diverted a header into the bottom corner.
The visitor’s were reduced to ten men in the 74th minute when Nenad Milijas (pr: nen-ad milly-ass) was sent-off for a rash challenge on Mikel Arteta (pr: ar-tet-ah), but Hennessey’s string of saves ensured that Mick McCarthy’s men held out for a crucial point.
