Sixmilebridge’s Tiarnan Agnew has won the U15 Small Ball Singles title at the World Handball Championships in Calgary.
The St Caimins Community School student has also claimed the U15 Big Ball One Wall Doubles title alongside Cormac Munroe of Omagh, Tyrone.
En route to the final, Agnew breezed past the challenge of Mayo’s Alan Masterson and Conor Walsh of Cork in the last sixteen and quarter-final respectively.
A 21-8 21-15 win over Roscommon’s Michael Egan in the semi-final set Tiarnan up for a final bout with Peter Donohue of Galway the winner of the Big Ball Singles competition.
The win caps off a glorious World Championships for the Kilkishen clubman who was the first individual named on Team Ireland for the Worlds.
A number of Clare handballers will aim to follow in Agnew’s footsteps by getting their hands on a world medal with Colin Corbett, Bridin Dinan, Clodagh Nash, Ella Donnellan, Doireann Murphy, Colin Crehan, Pat Donnellan, Diarmaid Nash, Chloe Philpott and Natasha Coughlan all in final action.
