A Draw In The All Ireland Final

Clare and Cork will have to do battle once more after a thrilling draw in this afternoon’s All Ireland Final.

The young Clare team started best, and led for the majority of the first-half. Patrick Kelly made two magnificent saves to keep Cork at bay, but his counterpart at the other end Anthony Nash matched him by keeping out a close-range effort from Darach Honan.

At half-time Clare led by two, 0-12 to 0-10.

Clare started the second-half best of all, with quick points from Tony Kelly and Colin Ryan but their lead was cut to one when Cork’s Conor Lehane scored their first goal.

The setback didn’t stop Clare’s charge however – Podge Collins, John Conlon and Colin Ryan all scored crucial points and Clare led by five, 0-21 to 1-13 with 15 minutes to go.

Anthony Nash scored a goal with a bullet of a 20-metre free – Kelly had saved a similar effort from him in the first-half – and then with seven minutes to go Patrick Cronin scored another goal for the Rebels, pulling them level.

Clare went ahead, before Patrick Horgan pointed twice for Cork to put the Rebels ahead.

However, Domhnall O’Donovan scored a point from far out on the left-hand side to rescue the team.

His point gave us a final score of Clare 0-25 to 3-16.

The replay will be held on Saturday September 28th.
