The Corkman put in a valiant effort to finish fifth in this morning's race.

Slovakia's Matej Toth was the man to claim gold.

There was also a fine performance from the men's 4-by-400-metres relay team, who ran a new national record of 3-minutes 1-point-2-6 seconds.

The team, with Sixmilebridge's Timmy Crowe as part of the squad, were 13th overall.

Later, Usain Bolt will gun for a third gold of the Championships, when he anchors the Jamaican team in the men's 4-by-100 metre relay.
